Canine Companions for Independence
Benefit Run October 2000
"Howling at the Harvest Moon"

Sunday October 29th, a hundred
and forty people registered for the event at Rolling Thunder Cycles, warming up with some
hot coffee and donuts before heading out for a scenic ride. |

| After the ride, the CCI (Canine Companions)
supporters gathered at Callahan's Bar & Restaurant for a post-ride party.Callahan's
owner, Mike, had opened up his south-facing patio, moved the pool table out into the sun,
and set up a hot, tasty buffet for the hungry riders, who began arriving around noon. |

| Several puppies and their Puppy Raisers came from
Canine Companions to mingle with the party goers and give everyone an idea of how a Canine
Companion is trained. |

| For several hours everyone passed time with old
friends, gave the jukebox a workout, and wiped out the generous buffet. Just as they were
warming up to the pool, arm-wrestling, and dart competitions, it started to snow. Yes, the
first October snow in twenty years! So we moved straight to the awards ceremony, and got
everyone back on the road before conditions got slick. |

| Thanks to all the great people who signed up for
this event, and especially those who collected extra donations for Canine Companions, our
final donation to CCI was $2,656. Thank you all! |
